1 Corinthians 8 - “How to live for Jesus with others in view”
All believers have the freedom to do things that are not sinful, but not all believers possess that knowledge. What one believer may feel free to do could potentially be a snare for another believer. One believer may develop a conviction that certain things are wrong to do, but another believer may not share that same conviction.
Paul’s exhortation in Chapter 8 - don’t allow your freedom to become a stumbling block to another believer. A stumbling block is not what people often think. If I do something I am free to do, but you believe it to be wrong, for whatever reason. And my actions lead you to do what you believe is wrong, that is a stumbling block. I have caused you to sin.
My freedom should always be governed by the following:
1. My love for my brothers and sisters in Christ.
2.Knowing that other believers may not know what I know
3.I can technically be right but still be wrong if my actions lead another believer to do what they believe is wrong.
If your freedom collides with another’s conscience. Instead of criticizing one another, pray for one another. Never stop loving one another just because you may view things differently. Focus on what God may want to change in you rather than focusing on what you think needs to change in them.
