Unimaginable Power
Forward with back to the bible
Read Ephesians 3:20-21
Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
Reflect
How has God’s power been evident in your life?
Over the course of history, humans have been obsessed with power. Power-hungry kings conquered other nations in an attempt to build great empires. Politicians jockey for more powerful positions and seek to maintain control in legislatures and parliaments all over the world. In the workplace, individuals strive to attain promotions which allow them more decision-making power. Even our fantasy worlds are obsessed with power. Books and movies feature superheroes with super powers, wizards with powerful magic, and artificial intelligence that can run the world.
And yet, the most powerful being in existence is not a political leader, CEO, or figment of our imagination. Our God, the one true God, is so powerful that we cannot even understand just how powerful He truly is. Like His love, His power is also beyond our comprehension. Paul says that our God is not just able to do everything we ask of Him but that He is able to do “far more abundantly than all that we ask or think.”
That is a somewhat redundant way to say that God’s power exceeds our expectations so much that we mere humans do not even think to ask God to move in His most powerful ways. Our God is omnipotent. He is “all-powerful.” As we search Scripture, we can clearly see God’s power and might on display in stories of miracles, provision, and protection.
But what Paul says here is even more exciting. He says that God’s power is “at work within us.” We have access to this power! Through the Holy Spirit we have God’s power living in us and available to us. But He didn’t give us this amazing gift of power for our own glory. The Holy Spirit works through us in powerful ways for the glory of God. Friend, you have been empowered by the Holy Spirit with the very power of God to do good works that glorify His name. Ephesians 2:10 told us that God has prepared good works for us to do in His name and by His power and strength.
We can’t even imagine the things God can accomplish through us when we act in His power according to His sovereign will
