Romans 12:1-2 - “A life worth living”
Most of my adult life has been lived for Jesus. Someone might ask – “has it been worth it?” The short answer is yes. I could point to the fact that God has blessed me with a great wife whom I have been with now going on 35 years. I could point to how God has blessed me with the privilege of pastoring Calvary Chapel of Holbrook for almost 20 years. But the worth of living for Jesus goes far beyond that.
Like every other believer, I have had my ups and downs. I had planned to make a career in the military, but God had other plans. I had planned to be a computer programmer, but God had other plans. I never planned to be a pastor, yet God planned that for me. There have been times when I have wondered how different my life might be if God had allowed me to be a computer programmer or make a career in the military. But not once have I ever regretted my decision to follow Jesus.
A life worth living is one that is lived for Jesus. Living for Jesus however, is a life of sacrifice. It involves laying down my wants, my desires, and my plans for what God has purposed for my life. It entails living a God-centered life rather than a self-centered life.
As we seek to be a living sacrifice, we wage war against both our old sinful nature and the world around us. The world wants to conform us to its way of thinking, its way of viewing life, and its beliefs. The way we overcome conformity to the world’s pattern is to be transformed through the renewing of the mind. We renew our minds through the word of God and the Spirit of God.
If you are a follower of Jesus, know that nothing you have forsaken in this world will ever compare to what you have in Christ. If you are not a follower of Jesus know this, what you have gained in this world is temporal, but what you gain by following Jesus is eternal.
Have a blessed week.
