Romans 12:3-21 – “Do you want to know God’s will?”At various times throughout my walk with Jesus, I have found myself praying and asking God what I should do. In essence, what I was praying was – God, what is your will for me in this? I would imagine you have been in that place many times as well. The heart of every believer, whose heart is right with God, is to do God’s will.
God’s will, however, is more than - what we should do when we have to decide something. The Bible is filled with God’s will for our lives. In some instances, the Bible states clearly what God’s will is. For example – in 1 Thessalonians 4:3 we are told this – “For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is, that you abstain from sexual immorality”.
As we saw yesterday though, there are many things we are instructed to do, but it’s not stated using the phrase – “the will of God”. Paul told the believers in Rome not to think more highly of themselves. He told them that their love for others must be sincere. He told them to bless those who persecute them. He told them not to repay evil with evil. That was God’s will for them and it is His will for us.
How do we come to learn what God’s will is for us? We begin by studying and learning scripture. As our understanding of scripture, grow, so too does our understanding of what God’s will is. Then we pray for wisdom in how to apply His will in the things we deal with each day. When we become faithful in carrying out His will each day, it becomes easier to discern His will in those moments when you are unsure of what to do.
I can’t promise you it will always be easy to do God’s will, but I can promise you that you will never go wrong in doing His will. Have a blessed week.
