Romans 15 – “How to have an effective ministry to others”
If I were to ask you what is your ministry, what would you say? Some of you might say I work in the children’s ministry. Some might say I am a missionary. Some might say I have a prison ministry or homeless ministry. Some of you might say I don’t have a ministry or I don’t know what my ministry is.
Here is what you need to understand about ministry. Every believer has been given a ministry. Ministry is simply serving God. Each of us has been given a ministry of serving God. One of the ways we serve God is by serving others. How we serve others will vary from believer to believer.
Some of us will be called to serve in specific areas. Like myself, I have been called to serve as a pastor. Serving others isn’t limited to specific ministries. You may help provide rides to those who need them. You may go and minister to those in your church family who are homebound. You may help by providing meals to those in need of them. These are all ways in which believers minister to others.
We looked at 3 things that can help us be effective in our ministry to others. First, meet people where they are. There will always be those who are not as far along in their walk with Jesus as you are. Sometimes our ministry to them will entail some sacrifices on our part. But this is what Jesus did for us when He sacrificed His life for us. Second, look to see how God is leading you to serve others and then be faithful to do it. Third, ministry is not meant to be done alone. There are different ways that people can help you in your ministry. One of the most important ways is by praying for you and those you are ministering to. Look to get others involved with you.
I believe these 3 things will allow us to be effective in our ministering to others. As you go forth into your week, know that there will be those whom God brings your way to minister to. Let God use you to glorify Himself and bless you in the process.
