1 Corinthians 13 – “The way of love”
Yesterday's focus was on understanding God’s way of love. The way of love is a way of life for the follower of Jesus. We are told in John 13:35 that others will know that we are Jesus’ disciples by our love for one another. In chapter 13 of 1 Corinthians Paul said this about love:
1 Corinthians 13:4–7 (ESV) Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant 5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; 6 it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. 7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
I will not go into detail about each of these aspects of love. You can watch yesterday’s teaching for that. Each one though is a different expression of God’s love. This love we are called to show is unconditional. It is not a love we manufacture ourselves. It is simply a love we are to let flow through us.
God’s desire for each of us is to love others. There is an old saying that says – “where God guides, God provides”. God doesn’t just call us to love others, but He equips us with the ability to do so by pouring His love into our hearts through the Holy Spirit.
What God desires is to love others through us. If you are in a place, where you would say to God – “God I can’t love that person”. Know that God is saying to you – “I know, but I can. Will you let me love them through you?”
As you go into your week, think about the different expressions of God’s love. Knowing that this is how God wants you to express love to those around you. Pray each day that He will help you to die to yourself so that His love might flow through you. If you find yourself struggling this week with loving someone, ask a fellow believer to pray with you.
