1 Corinthians 16 – “How are you doing spiritually?”
We live in a time when people seem to be more concerned and aware of their health than before. This includes believers. But shouldn’t we have the same concern and awareness of our spiritual well-being?
Sometimes people go to the doctor because they are not feeling well only to find out through a series of tests that they have cancer. The cancer didn’t show up on the day of the diagnosis, it had been there for a while. Sometimes there are indicators and other times there are none at all. Most believers want to believe they are doing well spiritually, but how do we know this to be the case? Are there things we can look at that can provide some indication?
As we closed out our study of 1 Corinthians, we looked at 7 areas that can help us gauge how we are doing spiritually. The 7 areas are as follows:
Are you giving to the Lord? How do you respond when God changes your plans? Are you more app to tear down than to build up? Are you keeping watch over your spiritual well-being? Are you standing firm in the faith? Is what you do for the Lord done out of love for God and love for His people? Are you devoted to serving God?
Don’t assume you are doing well spiritually. I want to encourage you to look over these 7 areas and ask Jesus to help you to evaluate how you are doing in each of them. In the areas you are strong in, keep them strong. In the areas that you are weak in, take the steps to build them up. Being well spiritually is not just for our benefit. When we are doing well spiritually, the body of Christ benefits as well.
Do all you can to be healthy spiritually so that you might glorify our Lord Jesus. Have a blessed week.
