2 Corinthians 1:1-11 – “Declaring God’s glory through our lives”
I want you to imagine living in a home where you can sit down anywhere in the home and look out a window to a beautiful scenic view. Now what would happen to that view if winds were to blow in smoke from a neighboring forest fire? All of a sudden those beautiful views would become obscure.
As followers of Jesus, every day is an opportunity to see and appreciate the beauty and majesty of God’s glory. Every day is an opportunity to see the greatness of our God.
But each day also has the potential to bring some difficulty into our lives. A trial or tribulation.
Some pain and/or suffering. A hardship that we find ourselves dealing with. In those moments it is like the winds have blown in this spiritual haze that can make it hard to see God’s glory. His greatness.
The challenge we face in those moments is to keep our focus on Jesus rather than turning our focus inward. In those moments we will either see big God-little problems or we will see little God-big problems. Either way, it will make it hard for us to see God’s glory.
What can we do in those moments? Begin with praising God for who He is. When we do this, it is like another round of winds coming through and beginning to blow out the haze even though our circumstances might not change. Remember this, as a pastor said, we don’t worship a why, we worship a who. Understanding the why doesn’t change who God is. He is the same whether we understand the why or not.
Looking up when life is pounding us, allows us to experience God’s comfort. As we experience God's comfort, we are then able to share that same comfort with those around us.
When life is hard and you are standing firm in your faith in God. When you are praising God even though you may not feel like praising Him. When you declare that our God is great even though life may not be great. You are declaring to the world around you His glory.
Have you ever come across a group of people who were looking up in the sky, only to find yourself looking up as well? This week, look upwards to Jesus and you may be surprised to see who else is looking up.
