2 Corinthians 1:12 – 2:4 – “Showing that our God is trustworthy.”
The greatest day of my life was on the day that I received God’s gift of salvation. The day that I decided to follow Jesus. And if you are a follower of Jesus, I am guessing that was the greatest day of your life as well. On that day we placed our trust in God. We declared that we believe and trust what the bible says about Jesus. My hope and prayer is that those who are not saved would come to see that our God is trustworthy.
The question is, how can we help them see this? First, by showing that you can be trusted. If people don’t trust you, they won’t trust what you have to say about Jesus.
Some qualities of a trustworthy person:
1. They are authentic. Be real with people. Don’t put on a façade. You don’t have to hide that you are not perfect. People already know it. We are imperfect people who sin and fall short. Christians are real people with real struggles. It’s okay if people see that you don’t have it all together. That you don’t have all the answers. Neither do they.
2. They hold themselves accountable. When you sin, don’t try to excuse it, explain it away, or blame it on someone else. If you blow it, don’t say – “my bad”. Acknowledge what you did wrong and ask for forgiveness. Christians aren’t just those who have been saved and forgiven. Christians should be those who confess their sin and repent of it when they do sin.
3. They are honest. Believers should be honest with themselves and with others. You can be honest with others without being brutally honest. Brutally honest people tend to be rude and insensitive. Speak truthfully, but speak lovingly. Be honest with others when you are hurting, struggling, or angry about something. Honest people come across as real people.
The second thing we can do to show that our God is trustworthy is to show that we trust God. Not just for our salvation, but in our everyday lives. If people think that you don’t trust God, then why should they? God’s trustworthiness has been demonstrated first and foremost through His Son Jesus who is the fulfillment of God’s promise of a Savior. A deliverer.
God’s word is filled with promises that still apply to us today. God has never failed to keep His promises nor will He. If you can trust God for your salvation, then you can surely trust Him in your time of need. Whether it be financial, emotional, or spiritual. Whether it is a physical need or a need for wisdom and discernment.
Go forth this week and show through your life that our God is trustworthy.
