2 Corinthians 2:5-17 – “We know how the story ends”
Upon Jesus’ death and resurrection, sin and death were defeated. The war was won. For those of us who have put our faith in Jesus, His victory became our victory.
Though the war has been won, there are still many battles to be fought. These battles may show up in health issues, financial issues, or relationship issues. One area that can become a battle for any believer is forgiveness. Sometimes, we find ourselves dealing with things that leave us unsure of how they will turn out. Things that we did not see coming. Things we did not plan on. Things that are beyond our control.
Why do I call these battles? Because battles are something that can be won or lost. What does victory look like? Victory is when I declare my trust in Jesus no matter how things turn out. Whether I can see a way out or not. Victory is when I declare my praise of Jesus whether things are going my way or not. Victory is when I stand firm in my faith when a loved one (a believer) dies even when I was praying they wouldn’t. When the outcome I was praying for is not what I get. Victory is when you get knocked down, but you get back up.
What is the key to realizing this victory in our lives? Always let Jesus lead you in your response. You will never lose by being led by Jesus. Secondly, by remembering how the story ends.
How does the story end? The story ends with Jesus coming again and establishing His kingdom on earth for a thousand years. The story ends with Jesus creating a new heaven and a new earth. One in which God’s people will never know pain, sorrow, death, or suffering ever again. Because we will never know sin again.
Your believing loved one may die, but both of you win because they are with Jesus and you will see them again. You may lose your job because you stand upon the truth of Jesus, but you still win. The world will seek to beat you down for your beliefs, but you still win.
You see, I can declare that we win because I know how the story ends. As you go forth this week, declare through your words and how you deal with things, that your victory is because of Jesus’ victory. You may lose a battle this week, but never forget the war is won. Get back up and press into Jesus. Stay in the word and keep praying. Stay in fellowship with your brothers and sisters in Christ. Because when you do, you will more likely than not see victory in the next battle.
