2 Corinthians 3 – “The beauty of the gospel”
Yesterday I shared two things from 2 Corinthians 3 that demonstrate the beauty of the gospel.
The first is the ability of the gospel to transform a person’s life. Paul is a wonderful example of how one can be transformed by the good news of Jesus when they respond to the truth of who He is and what He has done.
Since the day I heard the gospel and responded, I have seen my life transformed. Everything from how I think, how I act, what I value, how I view the world, and my view of morality. When I think of how my life has changed, I know it is not the result of my works, but rather the work of the Holy Spirit in me. When a person is born again, they become a new creation. The change is real, but the work is ongoing. People may disagree with our beliefs, but they cannot deny the change that takes place in our lives.
The second thing that gives beauty to the gospel is the freedom it brings. It’s not just freedom from sin, but the freedom to live for Jesus. I don’t have to attend church services, give to the Lord, read His word, and pray. But I do those things because I get to. These are things I would never have done had I not heard the gospel. Today I have the privilege of serving God in my calling as a Pastor. But it is something I joyfully do because I have been given the freedom to serve Him in this way.
As you go into your week, know that if you have been born again, your life is a testimony of the transforming power of the gospel. It’s not what your life used to be that makes your testimony powerful. It’s that you are being transformed, you are becoming more like Jesus, and you can’t take credit for it. Commit to Jesus and His word each day and people will see the change in your life. Live each day in the freedom you have been given. Let people see that your service to Jesus is what you get to do, not what you have to do.
